Yoga Day celebrations in Chandigarh, Over 1000 participants perform yoga in Rock Garden

A lively gathering of around 1000 participants from various walks of life performed a variety of yoga asanas, bringing life to the grand event.

Chandigarh: The citizens of Chandigarh today celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm in the picturesque surroundings of Rock Garden, Phase-3, Chandigarh. This year’s theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society’ embodied the essence of global unity.

The august presence of Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh as the Chief Guest added to the significance of the event. In his address, the Administrator congratulated and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for successfully completing a decade of International Yoga Day across the world. Purohit further said that he is happy that we all have become a part of this international movement.

The captivated audience also had the privilege of watching the live streaming of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address from Srinagar, the “Land of Sadhana”. Addressing the nation from Srinagar, Prime Minister Modi said that those who practice yoga realise that “our well-being is linked to the well-being of the world around us”. Noting the increase in the number of people practising the ancient Indian practice in the last 10 years, the Prime Minister said that the “Yoga Economy” has created jobs in India.

Yoga enthusiasts from Directorate of AYUSH, Department of Tourism, Central Government departments, Government Yoga Education & Health College (Sector 23) and teachers and students of Government Colleges in collaboration with various organizations and NGOs like Art of Living, Patanjali, Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan, GRIID, Khelshala, Brahmakumaris, Bihar School of Yoga, Nirankari, Institute for the Blind, Brahmrishi Yoga Prashikshan Mahavidyalaya, Yoga Federation of India, Chandigarh Yoga Association and Chandigarh Yoga Sabha performed various yoga asanas.

The Administrator emphasized the importance of yoga as it is the key to better health and success. He urged all to adopt yoga as a lifestyle, highlighting that even a small investment of time in daily routine can increase productivity and lead to better time management and reduction in stress.

Rajiv Verma, Advisor to Administrator, Surendra Singh Yadav, DGP, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anindita Mitra, Health Secretary Ajay Chagti, Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, Education Secretary Abhijit Chaudhary and other dignitaries of Chandigarh Administration actively participated in the yoga event on this important occasion.
