Zira, Punjab, July 21, 2025: A significant political rally was held today in the Zira Assembly constituency, located in Punjab’s Firozpur district, as part of the ongoing political activities ahead of future elections.
The event, organized by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), saw party president Sukhbir Singh Badal energizing supporters and making a key announcement that has stirred local political circles.
During the rally, Sukhbir Singh Badal appointed Harpreet Singh Hero, son of former MLA Harcharan Singh Hero, as the new halka incharge for the Zira constituency. The announcement was met with enthusiasm from the gathered crowd, signaling a strategic move by the SAD to strengthen its grassroots leadership in the region.
Badal, described as hyperactive in recent days, used the platform to rally support and outline the party’s vision for Zira, emphasizing local development and addressing community concerns.
The Zira constituency, one of the 117 Legislative Assembly seats in Punjab, has been a focal point of political activity. In the 2022 elections, Naresh Kataria of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured the seat, defeating competitors from the Indian National Congress and SAD. The constituency has a history of competitive elections, with Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira winning in 2017 by a margin of 23,534 votes against SAD’s Hari Singh Zira.
With a voter base of approximately 177,912 in 2017, Zira remains a crucial battleground for political parties.
Today’s rally comes amid heightened political activity in Punjab, with parties gearing up for upcoming electoral contests.
The SAD’s focus on Zira underscores its intent to reclaim influence in the region, leveraging local leadership to connect with voters. The appointment of Harpreet Singh Hero is seen as an effort to consolidate support among the constituency’s diverse electorate.
As the rally concluded, supporters expressed optimism about the party’s renewed energy under Badal’s leadership.
Political observers note that such events are critical for mobilizing workers and setting the tone for future campaigns in Zira, a constituency known for its engaged voter base and competitive electoral history.
