Punjabi Youth Shot Dead in Canada

A young man of Punjabi origin residing in Canada was shot dead. The victim’s brother, Punar Singh, has confirmed the incident. The shooting took place on the afternoon of March 14 in the Leduc area, near the city of Edmonton. Unidentified assailants surrounded a car on Highway 2 and opened fire indiscriminately upon the young man inside.

The deceased has been identified as Beerinder Singh, a native of Punjab who had moved to Canada on a student visa. According to the police, after completing his studies in Ontario, he had recently been working in the construction sector in the province of Alberta.

The incident occurred while Beerinder Singh was out for a long drive with some friends. Reports suggest that another individual was also present in his car at the time of the incident, although the police have not yet publicly disclosed that person’s identity.

According to eyewitnesses and preliminary investigations, the assailants—traveling in a white or grey pickup truck—intercepted Beerinder’s car and opened fire, resulting in his death at the scene.

Police Investigate the Killers

Currently, the police are investigating whether the assailants had a prior acquaintance with Beerinder Singh or if this was an isolated incident. As of now, the motive behind the murder remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. Given the gravity of the incident, the Major Crimes Unit of the Leduc RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) has taken charge of the investigation. The police have appealed to the public to immediately come forward with any information or CCTV footage related to this case.

Family Demands: Police Must Arrest Killers Soon

Beerinder Singh’s brother, Punar Singh, has confirmed the news of his murder. The family has demanded that the body be repatriated to India. Furthermore, they have urged the police to immediately arrest the killers and put them behind bars. The news of his death has plunged his relatives in Punjab into deep mourning. The family members have demanded an impartial investigation into the matter from the administration, and have urged the Canadian government to arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible. Intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs is also being anticipated in this case.
