Punjabi Youth from Ferozepur Shot Dead in Manila While on Duty to Collect Payment

Jalandhar: A young man from Daulatpura village in Punjab’s Ferozepur district was shot dead in the city of Manila, Philippines. The incident occurred on May 8. The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Singh. Ranjit worked as a money lender and had reportedly been involved in arguments with certain individuals.
Subsequently, Ranjit was ambushed. He was shot in the back of the head. It is reported that Ranjit lived in Manila with his family. His family consisted of his elder brother, wife, son, and daughter. News of his death has sent a wave of grief through Daulatpura village in the Ferozepur district.
The incident took place while Ranjit Singh was traveling to the market on his motorcycle in connection with his work. The attackers suddenly opened fire on him; a bullet struck the back of his head, and he died on the spot.
Ranjit Singh was approximately 39 to 40 years old. Ranjit had moved to Manila several years ago to improve his family’s financial situation. There, he was running a finance and money-lending business alongside his elder brother.

Elder Brother Was Visiting the Village at the Time of the Incident

Family members stated that at the time of the incident, Ranjit’s elder brother was visiting their village back home, leaving Ranjit Singh to manage the business alone. He was a typical young Punjabi man who had gone abroad to earn a livelihood and was working hard for the betterment of his family. Upon receiving news of the incident, the family has been left inconsolable with grief. Ranjit Singh is survived by his wife, an 8-year-old daughter, and a 4-year-old son.

Police Launch Search for Attackers, Scrutinizing CCTV Footage

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are actively searching for the attackers. CCTV footage is being scrutinized in an effort to identify the perpetrators. At present, the culprits remain unidentified. According to preliminary information, Ranjit’s wife has expressed suspicion that the incident is linked to his finance business. She mentioned that they occasionally faced difficulties with borrowers while attempting to recover loans. This incident raises serious questions regarding the safety and security of expatriate Punjabis. Such attacks on young Indians who have traveled to cities like Manila in pursuit of work are deeply distressing. The local police are continuing their investigation, and it is hoped that the attackers will be apprehended soon.

Ranjit Was Heading to the Market to Collect Debts

According to media reports from the Philippines, Ranjit Singh was engaged in a finance and money-lending business alongside his elder brother. On the day of the incident, he was on his way to the market to collect outstanding debts when the attackers opened fire on him. According to his wife’s statement, borrowers would occasionally fail to repay their loans, leading to verbal disputes or complications within the business. The police also suspect that the murder may be linked to this line of work. Theirs was a small-scale finance operation, through which they provided loans to individuals and collected repayments on schedule.
