Punjab’s cities will be garbage-free, ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ will transform cities

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ campaign to clean and improve the state’s urban areas. In this special campaign, Punjab government ministers, MLAs, mayors, councillors, and administrative officials are directly monitoring the cleanliness system. According to the Punjab government, the aim of the campaign is not just to clean for a few days, but to develop permanent arrangements that will improve regular cleanliness and waste management in cities.

Focus on Garbage Hotspots

The campaign, launched with the message of ‘Clean Punjab, Proud Punjab,’ is identifying locations where garbage frequently accumulates. These garbage hotspots will be cleaned by special teams. Regular monitoring and necessary local action are also being emphasized to prevent re-accumulation of garbage after cleaning these areas.

Minister Takes Charge in Nangal

The Local Bodies Minister led the campaign in Nangal, Sri Anandpur Sahib. He participated in the cleaning activities and interacted with sanitation workers and local residents. The government stated that the responsibility of keeping cities clean cannot be limited to sanitation workers alone. Shopkeepers, citizens, and local communities also need to play their part in maintaining cleanliness. He stated that instead of limiting the campaign to one-time cleaning, the focus is on regular monitoring and developing a system for taking action against garbage re-accumulation points.

Sanitation Workers Honored in Kotkapura

The Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly launched the campaign in Kotkapura. During the campaign, he honored sanitation workers who contributed to the city’s cleanliness and also participated in the cleaning activities with them. He informed that secondary waste collection centers and garbage dumping points will be cleaned in Kotkapura and other areas of Faridkot. According to the Speaker, a list of sanitation workers and their supervisors deployed in different wards has been prepared. It is planned to make it available on the government portal to increase transparency and accountability in the system.

Ministers and MLAs in action in several cities

Under ‘Mission Clean Punjab,’ public representatives led cleanliness drives in various cities and towns across the state. The Health Minister participated in cleanup activities at Thapar Chowk in Patiala. He highlighted the link between cleanliness and public health, saying that open waste can cause various health problems. In Jalandhar, the Cabinet Minister participated in the drive near Nakodar Chowk. The Cabinet Minister led the drive in Jandiala Guru with the Municipal Council President, councilors, and sanitation workers.

The drive also intensified in Khanna and Zirakpur

The Cabinet Minister launched the drive from the Khanna Municipal Council office. MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa, along with councilors, ward in-charges, and officials, initiated the cleanliness drive in Baltana, Zirakpur. During the drive, people were also urged to cooperate in keeping Zirakpur clean and garbage-free.

Responsibility from Amritsar to Sangrur

In Amritsar, the MLA and Mayor led the cleanliness drive. In Fatehgarh Sahib, the MLA participated in the Sirhind Municipal Council’s drive. In Sangrur, the MLA participated in the cleanliness drive from Khanda Chowk to Haripura via Punia Tower. He also participated in the drive at Toor Patti Park in Bhawanigarh.

Cleanliness Drives in Moga, Phagwara, and Ajnala

In Moga, the MLA and Deputy Commissioner monitored the drive. In Bassi Pathana, the MLA and SDM inspected the cleanliness arrangements. In Phagwara, the MP supervised the cleanup efforts. In Ajnala, the MLA led the SDM, EO, and other volunteers. Piles of garbage accumulated at various locations were removed.

People can lodge complaints through the M-Seva app

The Punjab government has urged the public to use the M-Seva app to increase public participation in the drive. Citizens can submit photos of garbage or unsanitary conditions in their areas to the administration through the app. This is expected to help the authorities identify such places and take necessary action for cleaning.
