Russian President Putin to Visit China from May 19–20 for Talks with Xi Jinping

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to the official Telegram channel of Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry said the visit is “timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the ‘Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation’ a foundational document for interstate relations.”

Focus on Strategic and Economic Cooperation

During the visit, the two sides are expected to sign a joint declaration and several cooperation agreements covering trade, energy and diplomatic coordination. Putin is also scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang to discuss economic and commercial ties between the two countries.

The visit comes at a time when Russia and China continue to deepen strategic ties amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and shifting global alliances. Analysts believe the meeting will further reinforce cooperation between the two nations on international platforms.

Visit Comes Days After Trump’s China Trip

Putin’s trip to Beijing comes shortly after former US President Donald Trump concluded his high-profile visit to China. International observers see the timing as significant, with Beijing hosting back-to-back meetings involving major world leaders.

The upcoming visit is also expected to mark continued high-level engagement between Putin and Xi, who have maintained close diplomatic relations in recent years through multiple bilateral meetings and strategic partnerships.
