Putin says ‘delighted’ to visit Beijing, expresses confidence in strengthening Russia–China partnership

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is looking forward to visiting China and is focused on deepening the partnership with the neighbouring country, which he said will benefit the people of both nations.

Addressing the people of China through a video message shared by Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Putin highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries and said regular visits strengthen bilateral ties.

“Unprecedented level” of Russia–China relations

“I am delighted to be visiting Beijing once again at the invitation of my long-time good friend, the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping,” Putin said.

He added that Russia–China relations have reached a truly unprecedented level, marked by mutual understanding, trust, and respect.

Focus on cooperation across key sectors

Outlining the partnership, Putin said both countries are expanding cooperation in politics, economy, defence, and humanitarian exchanges.

He noted that trade between Russia and China has surpassed the US$200 billion mark, with most mutual settlements now conducted in rubles and yuan. He also highlighted ongoing cultural and educational initiatives between the two nations.

Global role and upcoming talks

Putin said the strategic relationship between Moscow and Beijing plays a stabilising role globally and is aimed at promoting international law and cooperation without targeting any third country.

He added that upcoming talks in Beijing will focus on further strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional and international issues.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation.
