“‘I Am Not Safe’: PWC Staffer’s Wife Accuses Ex-Minister, Holds Back Postmortem and Funeral”

CHANDIGARH – In a major blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has resigned following the suicide of a Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation (PWC) official. The death has ignited serious allegations of corruption and harassment at high levels.

The official, identified as Randhawa, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance early Saturday morning. His widow has refused to allow postmortem or last rites until those responsible are arrested.

    Widow Levels Serious Allegations

Speaking to reporters, the deceased’s wife alleged that her husband was under immense pressure over a government tender he had refused to clear.

She claimed that on March 13, he was “tortured” in his office and had also received threats against his family. Despite reporting the matter to authorities, she said no concrete action was taken.

The widow further alleged that threats were made to harm their children and that continuous harassment pushed her husband to take the extreme step.

    Video Evidence Adds to Controversy

The case intensified after a video surfaced on social media, allegedly recorded by the deceased before his death.

In the video, he reportedly named Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar as responsible for his condition and expressed fear for his life.

The widow also claimed that an FIR was initially delayed due to pressure, warning that the family’s safety remains at risk.

    Resignation and Police Action

Amid mounting pressure, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann accepted Laljit Singh Bhullar’s resignation late Sunday.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that an FIR has been registered at Ranjit Avenue police station.

The case has been filed under Sections 109, 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), naming the former minister, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and an aide for abetment of suicide.

    Family Demands Justice and Protection

The victim’s family has demanded immediate arrests of all accused and sought police protection, citing threats to their lives.

The situation remains tense as investigations continue and political reactions grow stronger across the state.
