Raghav Chadha Allocates ₹1 Cr MPLAD for Nurpur Bedi Sports Hub

Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has announced the allocation of ₹1 crore from his MPLAD fund for the construction of a modern indoor sports facility in Nurpur Bedi, a key population Centre in Punjab’s Rupnagar district. The initiative aims to strengthen sports and education infrastructure in a region that caters to nearly 135 surrounding villages.

The announcement was made during the foundation stone-laying and groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by local MLA Dinesh Chadha, senior officials, and residents. Despite its central role in the region, the entire Nurpur Bedi block had no indoor sports facility until now.

Project Based on Public Demand and Local Needs

Emphasising that MPLAD funds are public money, Raghav Chadha stated that such resources must always be utilized in line with the needs and aspirations of the people. Nurpur Bedi, a notified rural area, was selected following consistent demands raised by the Gram Panchayat and the local MLA.

The allocation reflects a participatory approach to development, ensuring that community priorities are translated into tangible infrastructure on the ground.

State-of-the-Art Facilities for Youth

The proposed indoor sports complex is designed as a multi-functional development Centre that supports both physical fitness and academic growth. According to officials, the facility will feature:

• Badminton courts for training and competition

• Table tennis infrastructure

• A fully equipped weightlifting and fitness zone

• An air-conditioned library for students and exam aspirants

The inclusion of both sports and learning spaces is expected to benefit a wide cross-section of youth from rural and semi-rural backgrounds.

Strengthening Grassroots Sports Ecosystem

With limited access to quality infrastructure, many talented youngsters from Nurpur Bedi and nearby villages were earlier forced to travel long distances for training. The new facility will provide a safe, structured and accessible environment for nurturing sporting talent locally.

Community leaders believe the Centre will encourage greater participation in indoor sports, promote healthy lifestyles, and help identify athletes capable of competing at district and state levels.

Highlighting the broader vision behind the project, Raghav Chadha said that investing in sports and education is an investment in the future of Punjab. The facility is expected to serve as a regional hub for youth engagement, skill development, and academic preparation.
