Raghav Chadha Name Added to Rajinder Nagar Electoral Roll After Due Procedure, EC Clarifies

New Delhi: The Election Commission has clarified that BJP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha’s name was added to the Rajinder Nagar electoral roll after following the prescribed procedure, days after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) questioned how his name was included in the Delhi voter list.

According to the clarification issued by the office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, Chadha submitted Form-6 on August 26, 2026, seeking inclusion of his name in the electoral roll of AC-39 (Rajinder Nagar). His application was subsequently approved by the Electoral Registration Officer on September 2, 2026, after completion of the mandatory seven-day notice period.

No record of form 6 submission by Raghav Chadha on EC website or any of the records made public. Isn’t it mandatory to list all form 6 applications and publish it in form 9 to invite any objections on the application?

EC Clarifies Raghav Chadha’s Voter List Inclusion

“As per the record available, Raghav Chadha, MP (Rajya Sabha), has applied for inclusion of his name in Form-6 in AC-39 (Rajinder Nagar) on August 26, 2026, vide application No. 05039D6N2608261200000,” the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office said.

The Election Commission said the application was approved after completion of the mandatory seven-day notice period and after following the procedure prescribed by the poll body.

“The Form was approved by the Electoral Registration Officer of the AC-39 (Rajinder Nagar) after completion of the mandatory notice period of 7 days, on September 2, 2026, after following due procedure as laid down by the Election Commission of India,” it said.

The clarification came after AAP questioned the addition of Chadha’s name to the electoral roll. The party had raised questions over how his name was added when the voter list for the concerned polling part had already shown 746 voters and sought an explanation from the Election Commission regarding the process followed.

AAP Questions Addition of Chadha’s Name

AAP rejected the Election Commission’s explanation and alleged that Chadha’s name had been added to the electoral roll “through the back door”. The party also questioned whether political pressure was involved in the process.

AAP national media-in-charge Anurag Dhanda demanded that Chadha’s Form-6 application be made public and that citizens should be given an opportunity to file objections against his inclusion, as permitted in the case of ordinary electors.

In a post on X, Dhanda questioned why the Form-6 submission and related record were not available on the Election Commission’s website or among the records made public. He challenged the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India to make the date and record of Chadha’s Form-6 application public.

The AAP also questioned whether Form-6 applications are required to be listed and published in Form 9 to invite objections.

How Names Are Added to Electoral Rolls After Form-6 Approval

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office said that under Election Commission provisions, any eligible person whose name is not included in the electoral roll can apply for inclusion by submitting Form-6 along with the prescribed supporting documents.

It further explained that the final electoral roll is published after the revision period and after claims and objections have been disposed of. However, once a Form-6 application is approved, the elector’s name starts reflecting in the database immediately.

According to the clarification, the name is added in continuation of the last serial number of the draft electoral roll.

The CEO’s office also referred to the Election Commission’s May 14 guidelines on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The guidelines state that names added during the SIR period would be assigned serial numbers continuing from the last entry in the draft electoral roll.

The Election Commission’s clarification has therefore provided the procedural details surrounding Raghav Chadha’s inclusion in the Rajinder Nagar electoral roll, while AAP has continued to question the transparency of the process and demanded disclosure of the relevant Form-6 records.
