Indore: Ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Indore for the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme, senior Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma said the event would be historic and claimed that around 2.5 lakh students had registered voluntarily for the programme.
Verma described the programme as non-political and said Rahul Gandhi has immense popularity among the youth, particularly students across India. He said students believe Gandhi is raising his voice for their rights and concerns.
2.5 Lakh Registrations Claimed
Verma said similar programmes had been organised in cities including Gaya, Pune, Kota and Dehradun, where thousands of students participated voluntarily. He said the Indore programme would be the biggest among them, with around 2.5 lakh registrations received, according to his claim.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Indore on Saturday for the Congress’ ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ outreach programme, which the party is seeking to use as a platform to raise issues concerning students, education, recruitment and unemployment in Madhya Pradesh.
Students Get Rahul Gandhi Tattoos Ahead Of Event
Ahead of the programme, many students got Rahul Gandhi’s image tattooed on their hands. Posters targeting Gandhi were also put up at several places across Indore ahead of the event, but Congress workers removed them, according to the report.
Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said a large number of students were joining the programme because of concerns over the government and issues in the education sector. He alleged that students were affected by issues including paper leaks and corruption in the education department.
The Congress and BJP have also traded allegations over the venue, adding to the political significance of Gandhi’s visit to Madhya Pradesh.
The ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme is part of Rahul Gandhi’s wider outreach among students, with previous editions held in Kota, Dehradun, Prayagraj and Pune. Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari said the programme would provide young people with a platform to raise concerns related to education, opportunities and rights.
