INDIA BLOC Protest: Rahul Gandhi Says Constitution Under Attack, Claims Gyanesh Kumar Has Lost Sleep

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that the Constitution was under attack and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining democratic institutions. Speaking at a press briefing at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi, Gandhi said the Opposition’s resistance would continue and would not be limited to a single day.

“The Constitution is being attacked… This resistance is not a one-day thing; it will continue,” Gandhi said, while criticising the handling of protests and the police action against demonstrators.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the Narendra Modi-led government of protecting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar amid the Opposition’s allegations of “vote chori” and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Gandhi claimed that Kumar had been unable to sleep at night and challenged the authorities over the restrictions imposed in the national capital ahead of the INDIA bloc’s planned march to the Supreme Court.

Addressing a press conference before the march, Gandhi questioned why Kumar had not resigned and alleged that Opposition leaders were being detained because they were raising questions about the functioning of the Election Commission.

“We know Gyanesh Kumar has not been able to sleep at night,” Gandhi said, adding that people would continue demanding answers from the CEC. He also claimed that around 200 government officers were in contact with the Opposition and said the movement would continue until the Constitution was upheld and the electoral system was fixed.

Rahul Gandhi Targets CEC Gyanesh Kumar Over Resignation Demand

Gandhi also targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations raised by the Opposition concerning the electoral process. Claiming that the controversy had affected Kumar’s sleep, Gandhi questioned why the CEC had not resigned.

“This is happening because we are raising the very same question that the two Election Commissioners had asked: why isn’t Gyanesh Kumar resigning?” Gandhi said. He further alleged that he was aware of Kumar’s past and accused him of corruption. These remarks were part of Gandhi’s allegations; they should not be treated as established findings.

INDIA Bloc to File Petition in Supreme Court

Gandhi said INDIA bloc leaders would file a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday over concerns about electoral fairness and alleged “vote chori”. He said he and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had written to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant expressing concern about what they described as an attack on Indian democracy and the fairness of elections.

According to Gandhi, the CJI responded to their letter and advised them to file a petition. The Opposition has been demanding a pause in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and has raised questions about the Election Commission’s functioning.

The planned legal move comes amid the INDIA bloc’s efforts to take its concerns over electoral rolls and the “vote chori” allegations to the Supreme Court.

Rahul Gandhi Questions Delhi Restrictions, Accuses Government of Protecting CEC

Gandhi criticised the heavy security deployment and restrictions in Delhi, claiming that people were being stopped from reaching the capital and that train and bus services were being obstructed. He described Delhi as having been turned into a “fortress” and questioned why the national capital was being placed under such restrictions.

During the press conference, Gandhi also played videos that he said showed alleged police excesses against protesters. He accused the authorities of using force against young demonstrators and argued that the government was making a mistake by deploying a large number of police personnel.

Gandhi framed the protest as a movement to defend the Constitution and demanded accountability over the alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. His remarks came amid the Opposition’s continuing demand for Kumar’s resignation and a halt to the SIR exercise.

New Delhi: Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc are set to march towards the Supreme Court on Monday to submit a memorandum to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant over allegations of “vote chori” and demand a pause in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The proposed march is expected to be led by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the issue. Gandhi has said that the government would not be able to silence the voice of India.

Taking a swipe at the Centre over the Delhi Police crackdown on Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters, Gandhi said opposition leaders would approach the Supreme Court with “love, brotherhood and patriotism”.

Rahul Gandhi to Hold Press Conference at 11:30 AM

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address a press conference at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, amid the Opposition’s continuing campaign against the SIR exercise and alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.

Other prominent leaders expected to join the march include Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav.

CJI Surya Kant had earlier declined Gandhi’s request for a meeting, stating that the issues the Congress leader wanted to discuss were already pending before the Supreme Court.

New Delhi: Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc are set to march towards the Supreme Court on Monday to raise allegations of “vote chori” and demand a halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The leaders plan to submit a memorandum to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, seeking intervention over their concerns regarding the electoral process and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

The march is expected to be led by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav are also expected to join the protest.

The proposed march comes amid an intensifying political confrontation over the SIR exercise and allegations of electoral irregularities raised by opposition parties. The Election Commission’s role and the demand for action against the CEC have become central issues in the ongoing protests.

Rahul Gandhi Targets Centre, Says Opposition Will March With ‘Love and Brotherhood’

Rahul Gandhi has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of attempting to silence the voices of people raising concerns over the electoral process. He has maintained that the opposition will continue to raise the issue.

Gandhi also criticised the Delhi Police’s response to demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), whose protesters have been demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and raising concerns over the SIR process.

The Congress leader said the opposition leaders would approach the Supreme Court with “love, brotherhood and patriotism”.

The proposed march follows Gandhi’s request for a meeting with CJI Surya Kant. The Chief Justice declined the request, stating that the issues Gandhi wanted to discuss were already pending before the Supreme Court.

Delhi Police Tightens Security, Issues Traffic Advisory

Security arrangements have been strengthened across central Delhi ahead of the proposed march. Police personnel have been deployed at key locations, while the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory warning commuters of possible congestion and diversions.

Authorities have requested people to avoid non-essential travel through affected areas and cooperate with police personnel to ensure smooth traffic movement.

Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, particularly those travelling through central Delhi, where security restrictions could affect normal movement.

Delhi Metro Closes Entry and Exit at Six Stations Till 4 PM

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced temporary restrictions at six metro stations on Monday, citing security reasons amid the opposition’s planned march.

Entry and exit gates at the following stations are scheduled to remain closed from 6 am to 4 pm on October 12:

    • Patel Chowk
    • Janpath
    • Rajiv Chowk
    • Mandi House
    • Central Secretariat
    • Barakhamba Road

The DMRC said interchange facilities would remain available at the affected stations. The situation is to be reviewed by security agencies, with further updates to be issued depending on developments.

The closures come amid wider protests in Delhi over the SIR exercise and demands for the CEC’s resignation. The restrictions have also drawn attention because of recent Supreme Court directions concerning public transport, peaceful protests and the movement of people during the demonstrations.

Supreme Court’s Earlier Directions Amid CJP Protests

The INDIA bloc’s proposed march comes against the backdrop of protests organised by the Cockroach Janta Party over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process.

The Supreme Court has recently addressed concerns surrounding restrictions imposed during the demonstrations, including the functioning of public transport and the treatment of peaceful protesters. The court has emphasised the need to follow the law while maintaining public order and has directed authorities to ensure the normal functioning of metro and railway services.

The court’s earlier observations have brought additional scrutiny to the security measures adopted in the national capital.

The opposition’s planned march is aimed at bringing its concerns over the SIR exercise, alleged electoral irregularities and the conduct of the Chief Election Commissioner before the Supreme Court. Further developments are expected as the situation unfolds on Monday.
