New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday condoled the death of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, who died after allegedly being assaulted by a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff outside his apartment in Delhi.
Gandhi called for a swift investigation into the incident and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.
Chongtham Vikram Singh ji, a renowned musician from Manipur, went downstairs to ask some men to lower the noise outside his home. He was beaten to death for it.

Rahul Gandhi Questions MHA, Delhi Police
Taking to X, Rahul Gandhi said Singh had gone downstairs after objecting to a group of men allegedly creating noise outside his home.
Gandhi questioned the Union Home Ministry and Delhi Police over the incident, raising concerns about the safety of people from the Northeast living in the national capital.
He said the incident had raised questions among Northeast families in Delhi and called for those responsible to face legal action.
Seven Arrested, Juvenile Apprehended
The 54-year-old musician died after a group of men allegedly assaulted him in the early hours of Monday in Kilokari village.
According to police, Singh had objected to a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff allegedly creating a nuisance outside his residence, including shouting and consuming alcohol.
The men allegedly assaulted him with punches and blows, leaving him injured.
The Sunlight Colony Police Station received a PCR call regarding the assault. Singh’s son, Yaiphaba, took him to Holy Family Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
Police have arrested seven men and apprehended a juvenile in connection with the case. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault and Singh’s death.
Manipuri Community Mourns Musician’s Death
The North East Students Society, Delhi University (NESSDU), also expressed condolences over Singh’s death.
The organisation described him as a respected Manipuri musician who had built his life in Delhi around music for nearly 20 years.
The incident has also sparked concerns over the safety of people from the Northeast in Delhi, with the investigation continuing into the circumstances that led to Singh’s death.
