Rahul Gandhi: ‘PM Modi, Amit Shah Won’t Be Able to Sleep Until They Resign; We’ll Keep Them Awake’

New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led government, saying the Opposition would continue to put pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah until they resign.

Addressing the Rachnatmak Congress National Convention in New Delhi, Gandhi said the Congress and other Opposition parties had now started “expressing themselves” and claimed that the process was “unstoppable”.

‘We Will Keep Them Awake’

Gandhi said the Opposition would continue its political battle against the government without hatred or violence.

“The Congress party and the entire Opposition have now started expressing themselves. It is unstoppable now,” Gandhi said.

He added, “Until the day Narendra Modi resigns and Amit Shah steps down, neither of them will be able to sleep. We will keep them awake.”

Gandhi said the battle was about protecting the country’s ethos and culture, which he described as being based on affection, brotherhood and non-violence.

Rahul Gandhi Attacks Govt Over Foreign Policy

The Congress leader also accused the Modi government of weakening India’s foreign policy and criticised its handling of the West Asia crisis.

Referring to the conflict involving Iran, Gandhi said India could have played a more significant role because of its relations with Iran, the US and Russia. He alleged that Pakistan instead stepped in as a mediator while India remained on the sidelines.

Gandhi also claimed that he was receiving information about an alleged “revolt” within the government and accused the Centre of suppressing reports concerning China’s activities along the Line of Actual Control.

These claims were made by Gandhi in his speech and have not been independently established.

‘Our Job Is to Make India Express Itself’

Gandhi also criticised the government’s handling of protests at Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG paper leak issue.

He alleged that the BJP’s political philosophy was aimed at imposing an order that benefited certain people, while the Opposition’s role was to ensure that people could express themselves.

He also referred to a woman whose daughter was allegedly raped and killed in Uttarakhand, saying the political system should allow people to voice their pain and grievances.

Gandhi further criticised the RSS, alleging that it did not understand contemporary India and arguing that understanding India required understanding its present-day society and aspirations.
