Haryana Weather Update: Yellow Alert in 18 Districts as Rainfall Remains 33% Below Normal

Haryana: The Southwest Monsoon has become fully active across Haryana, bringing widespread rainfall and a noticeable drop in temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in 18 districts on Thursday. Despite the recent showers, the state continues to face a 33% rainfall deficit since the start of the monsoon season.

According to the IMD, Haryana received 40.1 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 2, against the normal average of 61.3 mm. Over the past two days alone, the state recorded 11.1 mm of rainfall.

Fatehabad Receives Highest Rainfall, Sirsa Remains Dry

Among all districts, Fatehabad recorded the highest rainfall at 30.8 mm, followed by Mahendragarh (27.9 mm) and Hisar (20.7 mm). However, neighbouring Sirsa remained completely dry, while Nuh, Palwal and Faridabad recorded only light drizzles. Gurugram, Jind and Jhajjar also received less than 5 mm of rainfall.

The recent showers brought relief from the heat, with temperatures dropping by up to 5 degrees Celsius in several parts of the state.

Yellow Alert in 18 Districts

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Jind, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Nuh, Rewari, Mahendragarh and Bhiwani. These districts are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph.

Heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places, particularly in the northeastern and southern parts of the state.

Rain Likely Till July 5

The weather department has forecast widespread rainfall across Haryana on July 3, 4 and 5. While most districts are expected to receive moderate showers, heavy rain may occur in isolated areas. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and monitor weather updates before travelling.
