Rain alert in Punjab, hailstorm likely in 2 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for several districts of Punjab, warning of changing weather conditions across the state. Light to moderate rainfall has already been reported in parts of the region, bringing relief from rising temperatures.

Wind speeds during thunderstorms could reach up to 50–70 kmph in some areas, raising concerns about damage to crops, trees, and infrastructure. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.

Temperature drops, relief from heat

The rainfall has already led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across Punjab. Reports indicate that the mercury has fallen by around 2–3 degrees Celsius, providing temporary relief from the early summer heat.

Weather experts say this cooling trend is likely to continue over the next few days due to persistent cloud cover and rainfall activity. Across northwest India, temperatures are expected to dip further as the weather system remains active.

Impact on agriculture raises concern

While the rain has brought comfort to residents, it has also raised concerns among farmers. Recent spells of rain and hailstorms have already caused damage to standing wheat crops in several districts.
