Punjab weather update: Rain from tomorrow; Hoshiarpur on alert after water released from Pong Dam

No alert has been issued regarding rain in Punjab today, but according to the Meteorological Department, a new round of rain is likely to start from tomorrow. After this rain, the temperature in the state is expected to drop. However, till now the state has received less than normal rainfall, but it is expected that good rain will be seen in the coming days.

On the other hand, due to continuous rain in the neighboring state of Himachal Pradesh, the water level of the dams is increasing rapidly. Pong Dam is currently flowing above the danger mark, resulting in continuous water release from the dam. Officials say that the discharge and inflow of water has been kept the same, so that the water level in the dam can be controlled.

Alert issued in Hoshiarpur

Yesterday, the water level in Pong Dam was recorded at 1383.3, while the discharge and inflow from the dam was 59835 cusecs. In view of the rising water level of Pong Dam, an alert has been issued in Hoshiarpur.

The Hoshiarpur administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, is constantly monitoring the situation at Pong Dam. An hourly reporting system has been implemented so that there is no scope for any negligence. Officers have been deployed in sensitive villages so that help can be provided immediately if needed.

People should not pay attention to rumours – DC

The Deputy Commissioner has assured the citizens that all security, relief and communication related arrangements have been completed. He has appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumours and trust only official information. In case of any emergency, the District Control Room (01882-220412) can be contacted.

Status of three dams

According to the data of 6 am on 21 August, the water level in the dams is continuously increasing. All the dams are filled more than 85 percent.

Bhakra Dam (on Sutlej River) – Its water level was recorded at 1666.00 feet, which is about 87.35% of the total capacity. At present, 58671 cusecs of water is coming into it and 40392 cusecs is being released.

Pong Dam (on Beas River) – Its water level was 1383.12 feet, which is about 83.25% of the total capacity. 59835 cusecs of water is coming here and the same amount is being released.

Thein Dam (on Ravi River) – Its water level was recorded at 1716.19 feet, i.e. about 88.36% of the total capacity. At present, 18216 cusecs of water is coming into it and 8426 cusecs is being released.
