Rain and thunderstorm alert for Punjab and Chandigarh for four days; hail likely in 10 districts today

The weather is changing today across Punjab and Chandigarh. An alert has been issued for rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in some areas up to June 14. Meanwhile, a rain alert has been issued for the Tricity area, Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, for the next three hours; rain has already commenced in Mohali.

According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, Punjab’s maximum temperature saw a marginal change of 0.1 degrees on Wednesday. However, it remains 4.4 degrees above normal. The highest temperature, 46.2 degrees, was recorded in Bathinda.

While rain and thunderstorms are expected across the state, the Meteorological Centre has forecast hailstorms in 10 districts. These include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), Kapurthala, Jalandhar, and Fatehgarh Sahib.

9-year old boy died in storm 

On Tuesday evening, a 9-year-old boy died after an iron gate collapsed onto him during a severe storm on Lalluana Road in Mansa. The boy has been identified as Dilshan Insan. He was on his way to fetch milk with his grandfather when the storm intensified.

His grandfather told him to wait on the other side of the road, but just then, a nearby iron gate collapsed along with the wall it was attached to. Dilshan was a fifth-grade student and the only son of his parents, who also have two daughters. His last rites were performed on Wednesday.
