Rain and thunderstorm alert for Punjab and Chandigarh today; monsoon to arrive in the first week of July.

There is welcome news for the residents of Punjab and Chandigarh, who have been grappling with scorching heat and high humidity. According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, rain accompanied by storms, strong winds, and thunderstorms is expected in several cities on Saturday, June 27. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the region.

During this period, several districts may experience thunderstorms and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h. However, residents are likely to find relief from the heat between June 28 and June 30. The monsoon is expected to arrive in Punjab and Chandigarh during the first week of July.

2,883 MW of Power Generated by Private Thermal Plants

Electricity demand reached 15,412 MW by 7:45 AM today. Of this, 10,560 MW is being sourced from the central pool, while 4,856 MW is being generated within Punjab. State-run thermal plants are generating 1,327 MW, and private thermal plants are producing 2,883 MW of electricity.

Apart from Chandigarh, adverse weather conditions are predicted for several areas, including Mohali, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Pathankot. The department has advised people to avoid standing in open spaces or under trees during inclement weather.

No Weather Warnings from June 28 to 30

According to the Meteorological Department, no weather warnings have been issued for Punjab and Chandigarh for June 28, 29, and 30. Weather conditions are expected to remain normal during these three days.

While some areas may see partly cloudy skies and isolated light drizzles, there is no likelihood of significant weather changes or heavy rainfall.

Weather to Shift in Early July

According to the Meteorological Department, a spell of storms, thunderstorms, and strong winds may return to Punjab and Chandigarh on July 1 and 2. Rain is also expected in several areas during this period, which could bring people relief from the humidity and heat.
