6-Day Rain Warning for Himachal: Temperatures Drop, Relief from the Heat

So far in April, Himachal Pradesh has received rainfall significantly above normal levels. Intermittent rain is forecast to continue for the next six days as well. This weather pattern will keep the climate pleasant in the hills, with temperatures remaining below normal levels.

According to the Meteorological Department, between April 1 and April 29, Bilaspur district recorded 198 percent more rainfall than normal. Similarly, Solan recorded 171 percent above normal rainfall, followed by Shimla (72%), Sirmaur (86%), Kangra (58%), Hamirpur (87%), Mandi (72%), and Una (71%). Conversely, the districts of Chamba, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kinnaur received less rainfall than normal.

Over the past 24 hours (April 29), six districts—Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi—also experienced rainfall. This resulted in a sharp drop in temperatures, bringing a sigh of relief to residents of the plains who had been enduring intense heat.

Temperatures Drop 4.1 Degrees Below Normal

The state’s maximum temperature has fallen 4.1 degrees Celsius below the seasonal normal. Bhuntar witnessed the most significant decline—a drop of 9.5 degrees compared to normal—bringing the mercury down to 20.4 degrees Celsius. Manali’s temperature slid 6.3 degrees below normal to settle at 17 degrees; Mandi’s dropped 7.8 degrees to 26.8 degrees; and Solan’s fell 5.6 degrees below normal to reach 25.0 degrees Celsius. Similar drops in temperature were recorded in other cities across the state.

Intermittent Rain to Continue Until May 5

According to the Meteorological Department, light drizzle is likely across the entire state today, tomorrow, and the day after. On May 3, a Western Disturbance is expected to intensify and bring heavier rainfall.

A “Yellow Alert” for thunderstorms and squalls has been issued for Kangra, Kullu, Chamba, and Mandi for that day. Rain is also forecast for most parts of the state on May 4.
