Raipur Traffic Police Launch Innovative E-Rickshaw Initiative to Enhance Road Safety

Chhattisgarh, Raipur: In a first-of-its-kind move, the Raipur Traffic Police have rolled out a special e-rickshaw awareness drive to educate commuters on traffic rules and road safety.

Launched under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Raipur, the e-rickshaw is fitted with a public announcement system that navigates busy streets, urging people to wear helmets, fasten seat belts, obey traffic signals, and avoid rash driving.

Pilot Project Underway

ASP (Traffic) Prashant Shukla, who is overseeing the initiative, said:

“As per the SSP’s directions, we have started this initiative to promote traffic sense among citizens. The e-rickshaw moves through crowded areas and makes continuous announcements appealing to people to follow traffic rules.”

Currently being run on a trial basis with one vehicle, the project could be expanded citywide if it proves effective.

Building on Past Campaigns

The new initiative builds on Raipur’s earlier innovative drives such as the “Suno Raipur” campaign (2021), which engaged over 100,000 citizens in a road safety pledge and earned recognition in the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.

With around 450 road fatalities reported annually in Raipur, police are combining awareness campaigns with stricter enforcement to reduce accidents.

Public Response

The e-rickshaw’s compact size allows it to reach congested lanes where larger police vehicles struggle, helping address issues like illegal parking and traffic violations.

Local residents have welcomed the effort, calling it a non-intrusive and people-friendly approach to instilling discipline on Raipur’s roads.
