Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has written to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging the state government to release the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) of Punjab government employees and restore the old pension scheme.
In his letter, Warring termed the demand of government employees for payment of pending DA as “legitimate and genuine” and said it had also been validated by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Warring criticised the state government for prolonging the legal battle over the issue, saying the DA was an entitlement of employees that is paid from time to time by state governments as well as the Central government.
Warring Questions Government’s Move to Approach Supreme Court
Warring said the DA of Punjab government employees had remained pending for a long time and that employees had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which had issued directions to the state government to make the payment of pending DA in a time-bound manner.
He alleged that instead of following the High Court’s directions, the state government had approached the Supreme Court against the High Court orders.
Congress Leader Backs Government Employees’ DA Demand
Warring questioned the government’s decision to challenge the matter in the Supreme Court, saying the employees were responsible for running the government on a day-to-day basis and had ensured its smooth functioning over the years.
He said employees should not be penalised for supporting and cooperating with the government and urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to address their concerns regarding pending DA and the old pension scheme.
