‘We Benefited From PM Modi’s Popularity’: CM Bhajan Lal Sharma On BJP’s Rajasthan Civic Poll Performance

Jaipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken an early lead in Rajasthan’s urban local body election results, with counting underway across the state on Monday. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has credited, in part, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity for the party’s strong performance.

The civic polls are among the first major urban electoral tests for the Bhajan Lal Sharma government. The BJP’s performance is being closely watched as an indicator of its organisational strength and support base in urban Rajasthan.

Bhajan Lal Sharma Credits PM Modi’s Popularity

Sharma said the BJP benefited from the popularity and public support enjoyed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Chief Minister had taken an active role in the BJP’s campaign and conducted roadshows across 10 cities ahead of polling. His direct involvement gave the party’s campaign a strong leadership push as BJP candidates sought support from urban voters.

Sharma’s final roadshow was held in Jaipur on the last day of campaigning.

BJP Takes Early Lead In Rajasthan Civic Results

Counting of votes began at 8 a.m. on Monday across Rajasthan’s 309 urban local bodies. The elections cover 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils and 248 municipalities, with more than 10,000 councillor posts being decided.

According to the latest available results, BJP had won 163 seats, while Congress had secured 103 and Independents 43, though counting and result declarations were continuing.

The BJP has also established an early lead in several major urban centres, including Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur, as ward-wise results continue to come in.

Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer And Jodhpur Results

    Jaipur:
The Jaipur Municipal Corporation has 150 wards. Early results showed the BJP ahead in the city, with reports initially showing BJP winning 20 wards against seven for Congress as counting progressed.

The figures are being updated as more wards are declared, so the final Jaipur tally is yet to be treated as complete.

    Kota:
Kota Municipal Corporation has 100 wards. Counting is underway and ward-wise winners are being declared progressively. The final party-wise tally will emerge after all wards are counted.

    Ajmer:
Ajmer Municipal Corporation has 80 wards. The BJP has maintained a strong position in the early counting, while Congress and Independent candidates have also secured victories in individual wards.

    Jodhpur:
Jodhpur Municipal Corporation has 100 wards. BJP is leading Congress in the ongoing counting, with ward-wise results continuing to be declared.

    Udaipur:
In the 15 wards declared so far, BJP had won 10 while Congress secured five.

    Other Urban Bodies:
The BJP is also ahead in several municipal councils and municipalities across Rajasthan. However, Independents and opposition parties have recorded victories in a number of local bodies, meaning the final political picture will depend on the completion of counting across all wards.

Why The Results Matter For Bhajan Lal Sharma

The civic poll results are particularly significant for Sharma because he made the campaign a high-profile exercise and personally campaigned across 10 cities.

A strong BJP performance across major urban centres would strengthen the Chief Minister’s position within the party and provide an indication of the BJP’s urban support base under his leadership.

At the same time, the final outcome will only become clear once counting is completed and all ward-wise results are declared.

The Rajasthan urban local body elections cover 309 bodies, with counting taking place on September 14. The second phase included major municipal corporations such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur and Pali.
