Rajasthan Civic Poll Results 2026: Counting Underway For 309 Urban Bodies, Early BJP-Congress Wins Emerge

Jaipur: Counting of votes for Rajasthan’s 309 urban local bodies began at 8 a.m. on Monday, with the results set to determine the fate of thousands of candidates and pave the way for the formation of governing boards across the state.

The elections were held in two phases on September 9 and 11, with counting taking place simultaneously across Rajasthan. The latest live updates show early results emerging from individual wards, while the overall party-wise tally is still being compiled.

Rajasthan Civic Poll Results 2026: Latest Early Results

In the initial results, BJP candidate Kishan Dan won Barmer Ward 2, while the Congress secured victory in Barmer Ward 12, according to live counting updates.

The Rajasthan State Election Commission is updating candidate-wise results as counting progresses. Its live results page was showing 3,153 counts at the time of the latest update.

A complete statewide BJP-Congress-Independent tally is expected to emerge as counting progresses through the day.

309 Urban Bodies, 10,167 Wards In Poll Battle

The elections cover 309 urban local bodies and 10,167 wards, with 38,889 candidates contesting the polls.

The 309 bodies include 10 Municipal Corporations, 51 Municipal Councils and 248 Municipalities.

The first phase covered 162 urban bodies, while the second phase covered 147. Voting took place on September 9 and September 11, with counting scheduled simultaneously on September 14.

BJP, Congress And Independents In Key Contest

The election featured candidates from the BJP, Congress, other parties and a large number of Independents.

Before polling, 77 candidates were elected unopposed. Of these, BJP candidates accounted for 44, Congress candidates 16 and Independents 17. Thirty-seven of the 77 unopposed winners were women.

The large number of Independent candidates could prove important during the subsequent board-formation process, particularly in closely contested urban local bodies where neither major party secures a clear majority.

High Turnout In Rajasthan Civic Polls

The two-phase election recorded strong voter participation. The first phase recorded 76.41 per cent turnout, while the second phase recorded 70.68 per cent, taking the overall average to 72.95 per cent, according to election-related reports.

The high turnout has added significance to the results, which are being closely watched as an indicator of the political mood in urban Rajasthan.

BJP, Congress Face Test Of Urban Support

For the BJP, the results will test the party’s ability to strengthen its position in urban Rajasthan while it is currently in power in the state.

The Congress, meanwhile, faces the challenge of demonstrating that its urban support base remains intact after the change in government.

The previous urban local body election cycle, held between 2019 and 2021, saw the Congress form boards in a larger number of bodies, making this year’s results particularly significant for both parties.

The BJP has claimed that it will succeed in forming boards in more than 200 urban local bodies, while the Congress has expressed confidence without announcing a specific target.

First ‘One State-One Election’ Test For Urban Bodies

For the first time in Rajasthan, elections to all 309 urban local bodies are being processed together under the ‘One State-One Election’ model. The simultaneous counting is expected to provide a broad picture of political preferences across urban Rajasthan.

However, winning individual wards will not automatically translate into control of a municipal corporation, council or municipality. The subsequent board-formation process, including negotiations with Independents and smaller parties, will be crucial.

With counting continuing across the state, more ward-wise and urban-body-wise results are expected to emerge throughout Monday. The final political picture will become clearer as the Rajasthan State Election Commission updates its results.
