Rajasthan Congress Better Than National Leadership: Rajyavardhan Rathore

Jaipur: Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that the Congress leadership in Rajasthan is stronger than the party’s national leadership. He added that leaders from the state should consider managing the Congress at the national level. He was speaking to the media at SMS Stadium on Thursday.

Two-Child Rule Removed After 30 Years

Rathore also responded to criticism over the state government’s decision to remove the two-child eligibility rule for contesting local body and Panchayati Raj elections.

He said the restriction, which barred individuals with more than two children from contesting elections, was introduced nearly 30 years ago to promote awareness about family planning. According to him, Rajasthan was the only state enforcing such a rule.

Rathore stated that after three decades, awareness has increased among the public, and there was no reason for the rule to remain applicable only in Rajasthan. Therefore, the government decided to remove the penalty linked to the policy.

Hits Back at Opposition

Reacting to opposition criticism, Rathore said some leaders were spreading misinformation by claiming the government was encouraging people to have more children.

“If that was our intention, we would have made a rule allowing only those with three children to contest elections,” he remarked, adding that such claims were baseless. He accused the opposition of making false statements and said their leadership was weakening.

IPL Matches Likely in Rajasthan

Rathore also spoke about the Indian Premier League, expressing confidence that IPL matches would be held in Rajasthan this year, similar to other sporting events being organised in the state.
