RAJASTHAN GOVERNMENT SPEND RS 140 CRORE ON JAISALMER RAILWAY STATION FOR RENOVATION

Jaisalmer: The Golden City of Rajasthan is set to enter a new era of rail travel with the completion of the redevelopment of the Jaisalmer railway station at an estimated cost of around Rs 140 crore. The modernised station is now ready, and its formal inauguration is awaited. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the redeveloped facility soon.

Heritage-Inspired Design with Modern Facilities

The revamped Jaisalmer railway station beautifully blends local architectural heritage with modern technology. Built using yellow sandstone elements and traditional Rajasthani design motifs, the station reflects the city’s rich cultural legacy while offering contemporary amenities. This fusion gives passengers a first-hand glimpse of Jaisalmer’s desert heritage without compromising on comfort and efficiency.

Passenger convenience has been a key focus of the redevelopment. The station now features lifts and escalators, modern waiting halls, improved lighting, and upgraded sanitation facilities, ensuring a smoother and more pleasant travel experience for both locals and tourists.

Improved Connectivity, Inclusivity, and Growth Prospects

To streamline passenger movement, a well-planned concourse and circulating area have been developed, along with enhanced parking facilities within the station premises. Safety and navigation have also been strengthened through a new foot overbridge, cloakroom facilities, prominent signboards, and a digital passenger information system.

Special emphasis has been placed on inclusivity, with ramps, specially designed toilets, and barrier-free access for persons with disabilities across key areas. Welcoming the redevelopment, Jaisalmer MLA Chhotu Singh Bhati termed it a historic achievement, stating that the upgraded station would boost tourism, trade, and local employment while enhancing Jaisalmer’s global image. Once inaugurated, the redeveloped railway station is expected to become a major catalyst for regional development in the border district.
