Rajasthan Monsoon Intensifies; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Next Four Days

Jaipur: The southwest monsoon has regained strength across Rajasthan, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue heavy to very heavy rainfall alerts for the next four days. The weather department said the monsoon trough is currently passing through Bikaner, while a cyclonic circulation over northeastern Rajasthan has intensified rainfall activity across the state.

The IMD has forecast active monsoon conditions in most districts through the weekend, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and isolated spells of extremely heavy rain in several regions.

Orange alert issued for 12 districts as rainfall activity increases

The IMD has placed Banswara, Baran, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Jhalawar, Kota, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Salumbar and Udaipur under an Orange Alert for very heavy rainfall.

A Yellow Alert has also been issued for several other districts, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Sikar, Tonk, Barmer, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Phalodi and Sri Ganganagar, among others.

According to the IMD, eastern and southeastern Rajasthan are expected to witness the most intense rainfall during the current spell.

Banswara records highest rainfall; waterlogging reported in several areas

During the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was reported from several parts of the state.

Jagpura in Banswara recorded the highest rainfall at 167 mm, followed by:

• Asind (Bhilwara): 120 mm
• Bagore (Bhilwara): 120 mm
• Beawar town: 110 mm
• Aklera (Jhalawar): 81 mm
• Jhalrapatan: 73 mm

Rain was also recorded in Jaipur, Dholpur, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Baran districts.

The heavy showers caused waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupted normal life in several towns.

Temperatures drop as active monsoon continues

The widespread rainfall has led to a noticeable fall in daytime temperatures across much of Rajasthan.

Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 32.7°C, about 2.1°C below normal.

Other maximum temperatures included:

• Ajmer: 27°C
• Alwar: 30°C
• Kota: 29.8°C
• Chittorgarh: 29.6°C
• Dungarpur: 30.8°C

However, the desert districts remained the hottest, with Jaisalmer recording 40°C and Barmer 39.3°C.

IMD forecasts widespread rain till July 26

The weather department said the active monsoon conditions are being driven by a cyclonic circulation over northeastern Rajasthan and the monsoon trough passing through the state, which is drawing continuous moisture from the Bay of Bengal.

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall, accompanied by heavy to very heavy showers, across the Kota, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions around July 26.

The ongoing spell is expected to improve soil moisture and provide significant benefits to Kharif crops, while authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert for possible waterlogging and localized flooding.
