Rajasthan Heavy Rain: Waterlogging, Dam Gates Open as Monsoon Turns Active Again

Jaipur: The monsoon has become active again in Rajasthan, with heavy rain reported across several districts, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur and Sawai Madhopur, disrupting normal life and causing waterlogging in several areas.

Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging Across Districts

Heavy rainfall has inundated roads and low-lying areas in parts of Alwar and Dausa, while Jaipur has been receiving intermittent showers since Friday evening, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures.

In Ajmer, a wall of Arya Putri School near Plaza Cinema collapsed around 6 a.m. on Saturday following rainfall. Several cars parked near the wall were damaged after being buried under the debris. No casualties have been reported so far.

The renewed rainfall has also brought relief from the recent heat in Jaipur. Up to one inch of rain has been recorded at some locations in rural Jaipur.

Two Gates of Bandh Baretha Dam Opened

The rising water level at Bandh Baretha Dam, one of Bharatpur’s major reservoirs, prompted authorities to open two gates of the dam in Bayana on Saturday morning to regulate the water level.

The catchment area has reportedly been receiving rainfall for the past two days, resulting in a rise in the reservoir’s water level.

Meanwhile, schools in Jhalawar and Karauli remained closed on Saturday in view of the heavy-rain warning.

Orange Alert in 3 Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rain in three districts for Saturday, while a Yellow Alert has been issued for 24 districts.

Weather experts said a low-pressure system originating in the Bay of Bengal is influencing weather conditions along the eastern side of Rajasthan.

The monsoon trough is extending from Sri Ganganagar and Narnaul through the low-pressure area over northern Madhya Pradesh and southern Uttar Pradesh towards the Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of these weather systems, the monsoon is expected to remain active over eastern Rajasthan on September 5 and 6, with rainfall likely to continue in several districts.
