Rajasthan: After cooking gas, highway travel gets costlier; new rates from April 1

Following a decision by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), traveling on highways is going to become more expensive. The NHAI has decided to increase the fee for the annual FASTag pass. This pass will now be available for ₹3,075, up from the previous price of ₹3,000. The new rates will come into effect starting April 1st. Although this hike may appear minor, it will impact millions of motorists across the country.

The impact of this decision will be felt most acutely in the Dausa district of Rajasthan. Dausa’s geographical location is such that National Highways pass through it in every direction. Major highways connecting Dausa to Jaipur, Delhi, Kota, Manoharapur, and Bandikui are situated here. Consequently, local residents are required to pass through toll plazas on a daily or regular basis, meaning the increased fees will have a direct impact on their pockets.

FASTag Annual Pass Applicable to Private Vehicles

According to available information, the hike amounts to ₹75, a change that will affect over 5.6 million users nationwide. The FASTag annual pass is primarily applicable to non-commercial (private) vehicles, offering relief from the hassle of making repeated toll payments.

Usable Up to 200 Times

According to the NHAI, once a motorist purchases the annual pass, they can travel without making any additional payments for a period of one year or for a maximum of 200 toll trips. Once this limit is reached, standard toll charges become applicable.

Travel to Become Easier for Pilgrims as Well
The number of FASTag users continues to rise steadily. Officials state that this system has proven effective in promoting the use of FASTag and in reducing the long queues typically seen at toll plazas. Over recent times, there has been a consistent increase in the number of FASTag users, a trend that has also given a significant boost to digital payments.
