Rajasthan Horror: Mother, 3 Children Found Dead in Water Tank

Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan: A horrifying incident in Meena Baroda village near Gangapur City has left an entire region in shock after the bodies of three innocent children were found in a water tank close to their home on March 2, 2026, police said. The tragedy unfolded on the festive weekend as families were celebrating Holi, turning festive cheer into grief for neighbours and villagers alike.

The three victims Divya (5), Bharti (3), and 1½‑year‑old Deepak were discovered after locals alerted authorities to a disturbing scene near the tank, approximately 150 metres from their residence. Law enforcement and medical teams were called in, and the children’s bodies were recovered and taken to the Wazirpur Community Health Centre for further examination and post‑mortem procedures.

Mother’s Tragic Fate: Suicide After Incident

Investigations took a grim turn when police revealed that the children’s mother, Sangita Meena, was missing at the time the bodies were found. Authorities soon traced her to Bharatpur Railway Station, where she had allegedly jumped in front of a train late on the evening of March 1, a day before the bodies were discovered. She was initially taken to RPF and GRP custody and then rushed to hospital in Jaipur’s SMS Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Superintendent of Police Girraj Meena said that preliminary investigations suggest domestic strife and familial conflict may have played a role in the tragedy, although the precise circumstances of the children’s deaths whether accidental drowning or foul play remain under scrutiny. Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation to determine the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

    Allegations of Domestic Abuse Emerge

The focus of the investigation widened further when Sangita’s relatives accused her in‑laws of ongoing marital and domestic abuse, which they allege contributed to her desperation. The family claims that Sangita had repeatedly raised grievances about mistreatment and physical assault by her husband Praveen Meena and his relatives in Meena Baroda village.

A day before the incident, Sangita had reportedly posted a video on social media alleging harassment and stating that she and her children had been driven to a point of extreme distress. Police are including this video evidence in their investigation as they work to determine whether the accusations are linked to the tragic deaths.

    Police Investigation Underway

Local law enforcement has taken a multi‑pronged approach in probing the case. Police have detained Sangita’s husband Praveen, her brother‑in‑law Rakesh, sister‑in‑law Kavita, and mother‑in‑law Kamla for questioning as part of the ongoing inquiry, according to senior officials. Them being taken into custody indicates that authorities are examining potential criminal culpability along with the reported suicide narrative.

Forensic teams have collected evidence from the site, and post‑mortem reports are expected to shed light on the actual cause of the children’s deaths — whether drowning or otherwise. The police are also investigating the train incident that resulted in Sangita’s death to ascertain the full timeline and any links between the events.

Community in Shock, Call for Justice

The tragic deaths have left the local community devastated, especially coming during a time traditionally associated with celebration and family. Residents of Meena Baroda and surrounding villages expressed grief and demanded thorough investigation and justice for the children and their mother. Many villagers echoed concerns about domestic violence and the need for better protective measures for vulnerable family members.

As police continue their probe, the incident has sparked broader conversations about domestic abuse, mental health, and child safety in rural communities. Authorities have assured that all angles, including abuse allegations and the sequence of events leading to the tragedy, will be examined comprehensively.
