Rajasthan: IAF aircraft crashes near Jaisalmer, pilot ejects safely

New Delhi : A Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas of the Indian Air Force crashed near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on Tuesday during an operational training sortie.

The pilot has ejected safely, the Indian Air Force said in a statement.
A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident, it added. More details awaited

Reacting to the incident the Indian Air Force said in a statement, “One Tejas aircraft of the Indian Air Force met with an accident at Jaisalmer, today during an operational training sortie. The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident.”

This is the first crash of the indigenous jet since it first flew 23 years ago.

Earlier last month, a Hawk trainer aircraft of the IAF met with an accident during a training sortie in West Bengal. The plane crashed in the civilian area near the Kalaikunda Air Force Station. However, there was no loss of life or damage to any civilian property. Both the pilots ejected safely.
