Rajasthan’s Karauli: Three Electrocuted as 11kV Wire Falls on Road; Families Protest

Jaipur: Three people, including an uncle and his nephew, were electrocuted after a snapped 11kV high-tension electricity line fell on a road near the Bhopar River in Rajasthan’s Karauli district, officials said on Tuesday.

The victims were travelling on a motorcycle when it came into contact with the live wire, causing all three to die on the spot. The motorcycle also caught fire following the incident.

Victims Identified as Daily Wage Workers

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Rambabu (45), Vishnu (22), and Chaube Jatav (44), residents of Akhada village under Balghat police station limits. The three worked as daily wage labourers in Hindaun and were returning home when the accident occurred on Monday evening.

Officials said Chaube Jatav was the uncle of Vishnu, while Rambabu was their neighbour.

High-Voltage Wire Snaps, Triggers Fatal Accident

Police said the incident took place around 5 p.m. when the 11kV line suddenly snapped and fell onto an unpaved road near the river. The motorcycle got entangled in the live wire, resulting in fatal electrocution. Locals attempted to douse the fire by throwing soil, but all three victims died before help could arrive.

Following the incident, authorities have suspended the feeder in-charge of the electricity department pending an investigation.

Families Stage Protest, Demand Compensation

After the tragedy, grieving family members and villagers refused to allow the bodies to be taken for post-mortem and began a sit-in protest at the site, which has continued for over 18 hours.

The families are demanding ₹50 lakh compensation for each deceased and government jobs for one member from each affected family.

MLAs Reach Protest Site, Talks Fail

Todabhim MLA Ghanshyam Mahar and Hindaun MLA Aneet Jatav visited the protest site and extended support to the families. However, several rounds of talks between administration officials and protesters failed to reach a resolution.

MLA Mahar said the protest would continue until written assurance on compensation and jobs was provided.

Heavy Police Deployment at Site

A heavy police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Senior officials, including the Karauli SP, SDM, and ASP, are monitoring the situation and holding discussions with the protesters. The bodies remain at the protest site as the agitation continues.
