Rajasthan Monsoon Weakens: Light Rain Today, Fresh Spell Likely From September 12

Jaipur: Monsoon activity has weakened across Rajasthan, with light rain likely at isolated places in parts of the Kota and Bharatpur divisions on Tuesday. Weather experts expect the monsoon to remain subdued for the next four to five days before rainfall activity picks up again from September 12.

The state has received 24 per cent less rainfall than normal during the ongoing monsoon season so far. Only four districts have recorded above-normal rainfall, highlighting the uneven distribution of rain across Rajasthan.

Nathdwara records highest rain

During the past 24 hours, Nathdwara in Rajsamand recorded around 28 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state during the period. Rain was also reported from parts of Kotputli, Alwar and Sikar.

Late Monday evening, cloudy conditions developed over Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Churu, with light rain and strong winds reported at several places.

Weather experts said the monsoon trough shifted northwards from its normal position on Monday, contributing to the weakening of monsoon activity over Rajasthan.

Only four districts above normal rainfall

Rainfall remains uneven across the state. Bharatpur has recorded the highest surplus, receiving 638.8 mm of rainfall against its normal June 1-September 6 average of 481.7 mm, which is around 33 per cent above normal.

Rainfall in Dausa, Dholpur and Jhunjhunu has also remained above normal by around 7 to 13 per cent.

Meanwhile, Alwar has received around 1 per cent less rainfall than normal, while Karauli has recorded a deficit of about 5 per cent.

Rain likely to return from September 12

The monsoon is expected to remain weak over most parts of eastern Rajasthan for the next four to five days. However, isolated light rain is possible in parts of the Bharatpur and Kota divisions on Tuesday.

A fresh spell of rainfall is expected to develop from September 12, potentially increasing monsoon activity across the state.

With rainfall activity declining, daytime temperatures have also started rising. Maximum temperatures increased by up to 4 degrees Celsius in several places on Monday, including Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Alwar, Pilani, Tonk and Bhilwara.

The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 39°C in Phalodi.

Jaipur, Kota and other cities see heat rise

In Jaipur, clear and sunny conditions prevailed on Monday, pushing the maximum temperature up by 2 degrees to 35°C. A light breeze was reported in the evening.

Sikar witnessed dense clouds followed by rain and strong winds in the evening. The maximum temperature was 37.2°C, while the minimum stood at 22.9°C.

In Kota, the maximum temperature rose by 2 degrees to 34.1°C, while the minimum fell by 4 degrees to 21.8°C. The city had received around 12 mm of rain during the preceding 24 hours.

Ajmer recorded a maximum of 33.5°C and a minimum of 24°C. The city has received 452.4 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon, around 8.9 per cent above normal.

In Udaipur, the maximum temperature rose to 34°C from 32.7°C the previous day amid bright sunshine and high humidity.

Alwar received rain accompanied by a storm on Monday evening. Light rain and cloudy skies are likely on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to remain between 24°C and 33°C.

Jodhpur remained largely dry, with no rainfall alert issued for the week. The maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C.
