Rajasthan Police Warn Youth Against Cyber-Slavery Traps Through Fake Overseas Jobs

Jaipur: The Rajasthan Police have issued an advisory warning young people and their families against fraudulent overseas job offers that can turn into a trap of “cyber-slavery” or digital bondage.

Acting on the directions of Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma, the Cyber Crime Branch has urged job seekers to remain cautious while responding to advertisements and recruitment offers promising lucrative employment abroad.

Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime) V.K. Singh said international cyber-fraud syndicates are increasingly targeting unemployed and ambitious youth by offering attractive salaries, free accommodation and other benefits in Southeast Asian countries.

Fake Overseas Jobs Used to Lure Youth

According to the advisory, criminal networks have been using countries including Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand to lure victims through seemingly genuine employment opportunities.

Young people looking for quick employment and high-paying jobs may be offered positions in customer service, data entry, digital marketing and other office-based roles.

However, police warned that victims may discover after reaching the destination that the promised employment does not exist.

In some cases, their passports, identity documents and mobile phones may be confiscated, restricting their ability to leave the premises or contact their families.

Victims May Be Forced Into Online Scams

The advisory said victims may be confined to guarded premises and threatened or coerced into carrying out online scams.

They may allegedly be forced to deceive people through fake investment schemes, fraudulent customer-support operations, cryptocurrency scams and other cybercrime activities.

Those refusing to comply may face physical or psychological intimidation, according to the police warning.

The Rajasthan Police have therefore advised young people and their families to conduct thorough checks before accepting any overseas employment offer.

Police Advise Verification Before Travelling Abroad

Job seekers have been advised to verify the credentials of foreign employers and recruitment agencies and carefully check employment contracts, visa details, travel arrangements and accommodation before travelling.

The police also cautioned against making large advance payments to unknown agents or travelling abroad solely on the basis of social media advertisements or messages promising unusually high salaries.

Families have been urged to remain in regular contact with relatives who travel overseas for employment and to immediately report suspicious recruitment activity or signs of coercion to the authorities.

The Rajasthan Police stressed that an attractive overseas job offer should never come at the cost of a person’s safety, freedom and security.
