A heart-rending accident in Bawatra village, in Jalore district of Rajasthan, claimed the life of a six-year-old girl after a makeshift blackboard and part of a supporting wall collapsed on her inside a classroom at Marudhar Shikshan Sansthan Senior Secondary School. The tragedy occurred on Friday afternoon while the child was inside the room with other students.
School staff and local residents rushed to remove the debris after the structure gave way. The young student was pulled out and taken to Sayla Community Health Centre in critical condition. Despite immediate efforts, doctors declared her brought dead on arrival due to severe injuries sustained in the collapse.
Preliminary inquiries by police and local officials have raised questions about the structural safety of the school building. Locals described the classrooms as makeshift structures, with fibre bricks and temporary materials used for walls and support, possibly contributing to the collapse.
