Rajasthan Govt to Set Up Pension Courts for Pending Cases

The Rajasthan government has moved into action mode to clear thousands of pending pension cases that have been delaying payouts to retirees and pensioners across the state. The decision comes after data showed a large number of unresolved pension files, particularly in the education department.

Thousands of Pension Cases Await Resolution

According to official estimates, around 2,200 pension cases in the education department are expected to remain unresolved by March 31, 2026, with approximately 700 cases where even the initial post-retirement procedures have not been completed. This backlog has prompted the government to act to ensure timely resolution for pensioners.

Special Pension Courts to Be Held

To resolve these pending matters, the Finance (Pension) Department has announced that special “pension courts” will be organized at the divisional level. These courts will include officials from relevant departments, treasurers and representatives from pensioners’ organizations, and will operate through video conferencing where needed.

In these sessions, officials will examine records on the spot to identify documents and procedural issues that have held up cases, enabling faster decisions and settlements.

     What Will Pension Courts Do?

    • Review and resolve pending pension files that can be finalized without judicial intervention.

    • Identify and correct technical or procedural errors that have delayed processing.

    • Cases where policy issues or ongoing court disputes exist will be excluded from these courts.

    • District-level review meetings will monitor progress and expedite settlement.

Officials said that a detailed report on resolutions will be presented at the state level within one month of the special courts being held.

     Expected Impact

The initiative aims to reduce waiting times for retirees seeking pension dues and enhance administrative efficiency in handling long-pending cases that have accumulated over years due to procedural hurdles.
