A tragic road accident on the Jaipur–Dausa Expressway claimed the life of a Rajasthan Police Sub-Inspector (SI) after a car rammed into a trailer early Saturday morning. The deceased officer has been identified as Hanuman Meena (55), who was posted at the Sapotra Police Station in Karauli district.
The accident occurred near Nangal Bela village under the Aandhi police station area in Jaipur Rural, sending shockwaves through the police department and the local community.
According to initial reports, the accident took place when the car in which the police team was travelling crashed into the rear of a trailer moving ahead on the expressway. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the instant death of SI Hanuman Meena.
Three others travelling in the car, including two constables, sustained injuries in the crash. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Dausa, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Reports indicate that the police team was returning from an official assignment. They had reportedly travelled to Meerut in connection with a case and were on their way back to Rajasthan via Delhi when the accident occurred.
During the journey, most of the occupants in the car were resting, while the SI was seated in the front near the driver. The crash took place in the early hours, around 5 to 6 a.m., when visibility and alertness can often be reduced.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident may have been caused due to driver fatigue or a sudden braking by the trailer ahead. Officials suspect that the driver might have dozed off momentarily, leading to the vehicle losing control and crashing into the trailer.
However, police have stated that the exact cause of the accident will be confirmed only after a detailed investigation. Authorities are examining all aspects, including speed, road conditions, and driver alertness.
The injured have been identified as fellow police personnel and an accompanying individual. They were rescued with the help of local residents and emergency services, who acted quickly to pull them out of the damaged vehicle.
All three injured individuals were admitted to the district hospital in Dausa, where doctors are monitoring their condition. Officials have confirmed that they are out of immediate danger.
Following the accident, local police teams reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The body of the deceased officer has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Senior officials have expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that all necessary assistance will be provided. The department is also reviewing safety protocols for long-distance official travel.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on high-speed expressways, where fatigue, over-speeding, and reduced alertness during early hours often contribute to accidents.
Experts emphasize the importance of driver rest, adherence to speed limits, and proper monitoring to prevent such fatal crashes, especially during long-distance travel.
