Stressed after NEET Cancellation, Rajasthan Student hopeful of getting 650 marks dies by suicide

Amidst the rising tension among students after the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam, another suicide case has come to light. Pradeep Mahich, a medical aspirant from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself. According to family members, Pradeep had done well in the exam this year, expecting to score around 650 marks, but the cancellation of the exam had left him stressed.

According to the police, Pradeep had been living with his two sisters in Sikar for the past three years, preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET) at a private coaching institute. Pradeep is said to have committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan with his sister’s dupatta.

On Friday afternoon, his younger sister had gone to coaching classes, while his elder sister was in the bathroom. When she came out, she saw Pradeep hanging from a fan. She immediately cut the dupatta with scissors and informed the landlord and the police.

Rushed to the hospital, doctors declared dead

The family and police immediately took him to SK Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been kept in the hospital morgue. Pradeep had appeared for the NEET-UG 2026 exam held on May 3. His father, Rajesh Kumar Meghwal, told the police that his son had done well in the exam and the family was expecting him to score around 650 marks.

Stressed after exam cancellation 

According to the family, Pradeep was confident that he would get a seat in a government medical college this time. However, after the exam was cancelled, he became very sad. Family members say the constant uncertainty led to depression, which may have led to his taking this step.

The NEET-UG exam carries a total of 720 marks, with questions from physics, chemistry and biology. The National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 exam this week following allegations of paper leaks and irregularities. This decision has affected more than 2.2 million candidates across the country.
