Rajasthan Woman Dies After Childbirth; Family Alleges Doctors, Nurses Slept During Medical Emergency

Jaipur: A 23-year-old woman died after her condition deteriorated following childbirth at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rajasthan’s Banswara district, with her family alleging that on-duty doctors and nursing staff failed to respond to repeated pleas for help during the night.

The woman, identified as Sarla, was later referred to the district hospital after her condition turned critical but died while being shifted to MG Hospital, Banswara, according to her family.

Condition Worsened Hours After Delivery

The incident took place at the Gangadtalai Community Health Centre in the Anandpuri police station area.

According to family members, Sarla, wife of Ramesh and a resident of Tejpura village, was admitted to the health centre around 6 p.m. on Thursday after experiencing labour pains. She delivered her first child around midnight, but a few hours later, her blood pressure reportedly dropped sharply and her health began deteriorating.

Family Alleges Medical Negligence

Sarla’s brother-in-law, Vinesh Kumar Maida, alleged that despite repeatedly trying to alert the nursing staff, they were asleep and no immediate medical assistance was provided.

The family claimed Sarla continued to suffer in severe pain as her condition worsened through the night. According to them, she was referred to MG Hospital only around 6 a.m., when her condition had already become critical.

They alleged that timely treatment or an earlier referral could have saved her life.

Probe Awaited, Family Seeks Action

Sarla died in the ambulance while being taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Her father-in-law, Prabhu, and brother-in-law, Dinesh Kumar Maida, have demanded strict action against the doctors and nursing staff posted at the health centre, alleging gross negligence in handling the medical emergency.

The Rajasthan Health Department had not issued an official statement on the family’s allegations at the time of filing the report.
