Sikar, Rajasthan: A 22-year-old youth, Vikram Verma, from Rajasthan’s Sikar district, was killed in a drone strike in Oman amid the ongoing Iran–US–Israel tensions. His mortal remains reached his native village Agloi in Khandela on Tuesday, four days after the incident.
As the body arrived, an atmosphere of deep grief spread across the village. Vikram’s father and elder sister broke down, while a large number of villagers gathered at his home to pay their last respects. Later, his last rites were performed in the presence of family members and locals.
Had Gone Abroad for Work Just Days Before Incident
Vikram, son of Banwari Lal Verma, had travelled to Oman on February 23 in search of work. He was employed as a labourer in a road construction project with a private company.
According to family members, just before the incident, Vikram had spoken to them over a group video call. During the conversation, he assured them that he was doing well, getting food on time, and managing his work. However, he also expressed some concern about the situation there.
Vikram was the only son in the family and had gone abroad to improve their financial condition. His family includes his parents and three sisters, one of whom is married while the other two are younger. He was the sole breadwinner of the household.
Family Informed by Relative, Body Brought Back by Company
The family came to know about the tragic incident through a relative — Vikram’s maternal uncle — who was working at another site of the same company in Oman.
Following the incident, the company made arrangements to send Vikram’s body back to India.
Second Casualty from Rajasthan in Oman Conflict
This is not the first such incident involving a worker from Rajasthan. Earlier, on March 4, Dalip, a resident of Nagaur district, was killed in a missile attack in Oman. He was working on a crude oil company ship when an Iranian missile struck it at a port on March 1.
