Terrorist killed as Army foils infiltration bid in Rajouri

Security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, killing one terrorist during an encounter with Indian Army troops. The operation took place in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri after intelligence agencies alerted the Army about suspicious movement near the border.

The swift action by the Army prevented militants from crossing into Indian territory and highlighted the continued vigilance of security forces along the sensitive border region.

    Infiltration attempt detected along LoC

According to officials, the incident occurred in the Jhangar area of the Nowshera sector along the Line of Control in Rajouri district. Intelligence agencies had received inputs about the possible movement of militants attempting to infiltrate from across the border.

Acting on these inputs, alert Army personnel intensified surveillance and detected the movement of two suspected terrorists around 3 pm on March 10. The troops immediately launched an anti-infiltration operation to intercept them before they could cross deeper into Indian territory.

    Encounter leads to terrorist’s death

As the security forces moved in to stop the infiltrators, an exchange of fire took place between the militants and Army troops. During the brief encounter, one terrorist was killed by the security forces.

Officials said the militant was believed to be Pakistan-sponsored and was attempting to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir to carry out terrorist activities. The Army’s quick response ensured that the infiltration attempt was successfully thwarted.

The body of the killed terrorist was recovered from the area, while security forces immediately launched a search operation to track down the second infiltrator who managed to escape during the gunfight.

    Search operation underway

After the encounter, the Army intensified combing operations in the surrounding forested area to locate the second terrorist who was spotted during the infiltration attempt.

Additional troops were deployed to seal possible escape routes and ensure that the infiltrator does not manage to slip through security layers. Officials said surveillance operations using ground patrols and aerial monitoring were being carried out to track the suspect.

Security forces have also increased vigilance in nearby sectors to prevent further infiltration attempts.

    High alert along the border

The Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir remains one of the most sensitive borders in the country. Militants often attempt to cross into Indian territory from launch pads located across the border.

To counter such attempts, the Indian Army maintains a strong deployment along the LoC, particularly in districts such as Rajouri, Poonch, Kupwara, and Baramulla. The border stretches for about 740 kilometres across Jammu and Kashmir and is closely monitored by security forces.

Apart from infiltration attempts, security agencies also remain alert against activities such as drone smuggling, arms trafficking, and cross-border drug smuggling.

    Continuous operations against terrorism

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir regularly conduct anti-terror operations to prevent infiltration and dismantle militant networks operating in the region.

These operations involve coordinated efforts between the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces such as the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Officials say intelligence-based operations have significantly helped in neutralising militants and preventing attacks on civilians and security personnel.

Focus on maintaining security in J&K

The latest operation in Rajouri once again underlines the importance of maintaining strict vigilance along the LoC. Authorities say security forces will continue to maintain a strong operational posture to prevent infiltration attempts and ensure peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, the ongoing search operation is expected to continue until the second infiltrator is either captured or neutralised, ensuring that no militant manages to cross into the hinterland.
