Mumbai: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a tongue-in-cheek post on social media, saying that the “greatest independence” he has experienced is being free from marriage.

Varma took to X on Saturday and shared his Independence Day message, writing: “The GREATEST INDEPENDENCE I have ever had is from MARRIAGE #HappyIndependenceDay.”

The filmmaker is known for his outspoken and often controversial views, and his latest post quickly drew attention on the occasion of Independence Day.

RGV Also Questions Traditional Education System

Earlier, Varma shared a lengthy post questioning the conventional education system and the way students are trained for professional careers.

He argued that artificial intelligence is rapidly changing areas traditionally dominated by highly trained professionals and questioned whether students should continue spending years memorising information that AI can already process.

Referring specifically to medical education, Varma questioned the need for students to spend several years pursuing MBBS, postgraduate studies and specialisation when AI is increasingly being used for analysing medical data and assisting with diagnosis.

‘Why Am I Memorising What My Phone Already Knows?’

Varma argued that the education system continues to rely heavily on memorisation, examinations and degrees despite rapid technological changes.

He also questioned whether doctors could increasingly become intermediaries between patients and AI-powered systems as technology develops.

He said young people who question traditional methods of learning should not automatically be considered radical, arguing that students should instead be encouraged to question what they are being taught and why.
