Ram Temple Donation Probe Intensifies; Cash, Jewellery Seized, Lawyers Refuse to Represent Accused

Ayodhya: The investigation into the alleged misappropriation of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has intensified, with police recovering cash, jewellery and other valuables during raids conducted at the residences of the accused. The case has also taken an unusual turn after members of the Ayodhya Bar Association reportedly refused to represent the accused, citing the religious sentiments attached to the temple.

According to investigators, searches were conducted at multiple locations linked to the eight accused named in the FIR. Police recovered cash, jewellery and documents that are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have stated that the probe is expanding to determine the extent of the alleged financial irregularities and whether additional individuals were involved.

Jewellery, Cash Recovered During Investigation

Police officials said the recovered valuables have been seized and will be examined to establish whether they are linked to the alleged misappropriation of donations made by devotees at the Ram Temple.

The investigation has also widened to examine the role of officials responsible for handling and depositing temple donations, including scrutiny of banking procedures related to the collection and accounting of offerings. Investigators are analysing financial records, donation registers and bank transactions.

Lawyers Decline to Defend the Accused

In a rare development, several lawyers in Ayodhya have reportedly declined to represent the accused in court, stating that the allegations have deeply hurt the religious sentiments of devotees.

The decision has generated debate within legal circles, as every accused person is entitled to legal representation under Indian law. If the accused are unable to secure private counsel, the court may appoint legal aid to ensure a fair trial.

Background of the Case

The controversy began after allegations surfaced regarding irregularities in the handling of donations received at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Following a preliminary inquiry by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR against eight individuals on charges including criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

The accused include individuals allegedly associated with counting temple donations and handling collection boxes. Police have already arrested the accused, and the investigation is continuing to establish the exact amount involved and identify any additional persons connected to the alleged conspiracy.

Probe Continues

Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains at an early stage and that all allegations are subject to verification. The findings of the SIT, forensic examination of the seized material and scrutiny of financial records are expected to play a key role in determining the extent of any wrongdoing.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has previously maintained that its donation management system follows established procedures and has stated that it will cooperate fully with the investigation.
