Telangana BJP Chief Ramchander Rao Detained After House Arrest

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao was detained by Telangana Police from his residence on Tuesday after he was allegedly placed under house arrest, with the BJP leader claiming that he was stopped from travelling to Nalgonda.

Heavy police security was deployed outside Rao’s residence in Hyderabad when he was detained. Visuals from the area showed a significant police presence and protests during the detention.

Rao had alleged earlier that police placed him under house arrest since morning to prevent him from travelling to Nalgonda, where he was scheduled to meet BJP district president Varshit Reddy and his family.

Rao compares situation to Emergency

Speaking earlier, Rao criticised the Telangana government over the action and described the situation in the state as “worst undemocratic”, comparing it with the Emergency period.

He said this was the second time in three days that he had allegedly been placed under house arrest.

Rao maintained that he had decided to travel to Nalgonda despite the police action.

BJP-Congress tensions escalate

The BJP state chief alleged that the detention came amid growing political tensions between the BJP and the ruling Congress in Telangana.

Rao claimed that young people and students were increasingly supporting the BJP over the issue of fee reimbursement. He also alleged that Congress-affiliated groups had attacked BJP offices and workers.

According to Rao, the BJP’s state office was allegedly attacked on Monday, with its walls and gate defaced with black paint. He further claimed that the residence of Nalgonda district BJP president Varshit Reddy was ransacked and that Reddy’s mother was injured during the incident.

BJP alleges attack on party leader’s family

The BJP has alleged that Rao was placed under house arrest to prevent him from visiting Nalgonda following the reported attack on Varshit Reddy’s residence.

The party claimed that Reddy’s residence was ransacked and that members of his family, including his mother, were allegedly assaulted.

The allegations have added to tensions between the BJP and Congress in Telangana.

Rao also warned Congress leaders and workers against what he described as “lawlessness”, saying such incidents could further worsen the situation.

He appealed to the police and state government not to engage in what he termed illegal activities and warned of serious consequences.

The developments come amid heightened political tensions between the ruling Congress and the BJP in the state.
