Ranchi Police Book 300 Unidentified Persons Over Vidhan Sabha Gherao March, Allege Stone Pelting

Ranchi (Jharkhand): Ranchi Police have registered an FIR against around 300 unidentified persons in connection with the August 10 ‘Vidhan Sabha gherao’ march by students and aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in competitive examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

According to Ranchi Police, anti-social elements allegedly took advantage of the students’ protest and attempted to escalate the situation by pelting stones and attacking police personnel.

Police say anti-social elements joined protest

Ranchi Police said the people booked in the case were not students but anti-social elements who allegedly took advantage of the students’ march.

Police said only one FIR has been registered in connection with the Vidhan Sabha gherao incident and around 300 unidentified persons have been booked.

The allegations relate to clashes during the protest march, when police used force to control the crowd.

CID raids locations over exam irregularities

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Crime Investigation Department (CID) conducted raids at multiple locations across the state in connection with alleged irregularities in various competitive examinations conducted by the JPSC.

The development comes amid continued protests by students and job aspirants over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.

Nityanand Rai backs protesting students

Union Minister Nityanand Rai accused the Jharkhand government of ignoring the legitimate demands of students and attempting to suppress their movement.

Rai alleged that the state government, including the Congress, had committed an injustice against students and said their concerns should be addressed.

He called for protection of students’ rights and urged the government to fulfil the genuine demands of young aspirants.

Aspirants seek cancellation of JSSC-CGL exam

On August 10, Jharkhand Police used lathis and water cannons to disperse the crowd during the Vidhan Sabha gherao march in Ranchi.

The protest was organised by JPSC and JSSC aspirants over alleged irregularities in the JSSC-Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination and other recruitment examinations.

The protesting aspirants have been demanding cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination, a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities and reforms in the recruitment process.

The protesters have alleged that their demands have not been fully accepted by the state government.
