New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Kishan on Tuesday criticised the Opposition’s ongoing protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition parties of creating disruptions after electoral defeats.
Speaking to reporters in Chhattisgarh, Kishan alleged that Gandhi had “lost his mental balance” and accused Opposition parties of resorting to physical confrontations and attempting to disrupt political proceedings because they were unable to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
Referring to recent visuals of political clashes, Kishan also mentioned a confrontation involving shoes and slippers in Uttar Pradesh during a dispute over the state party president. He also referred to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav while criticising the Opposition.
Ravi Kishan Accuses Opposition of Inconveniencing Delhi Residents
Kishan said the protests in the national capital were causing inconvenience to ordinary people, including commuters and those travelling with patients in ambulances.
He accused the Congress of having exploited the country during its years in power and alleged that the Opposition was attempting to disrupt public life rather than understand people’s concerns.
According to the BJP MP, the public continues to support the Modi government and its policies, while the Opposition is trying to mobilise young people against the ruling party.
BJP MP Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations Over Elections
Kishan also questioned Gandhi’s allegations regarding electronic voting machines (EVMs) and electoral irregularities. He argued that Opposition leaders raise concerns about the electoral process after losing elections but do not question the results when they win.
Referring to Gyanesh Kumar’s appointment as Chief Election Commissioner in 2025, Kishan challenged Gandhi to explain why objections were being raised over elections in which the Congress and other Opposition parties had suffered defeats.
The BJP MP accused the Opposition of using allegations of vote theft to target the ruling party and said voters continued to favour the BJP.
Opposition Raises Concerns Over SIR, Electoral Rolls
Opposition leaders have alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and raised concerns over electoral rolls. The BJP has defended the exercise and accused the Congress of politicising the issue.
Earlier, leaders of the INDIA bloc had sought an appointment with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to discuss their concerns. The CJI declined the request and advised them to approach the court through a petition in accordance with established legal procedures.
Following this, Rahul Gandhi led a protest march by INDIA bloc leaders towards the Supreme Court on Monday, intensifying the Opposition’s demonstrations over the electoral process.
