    Union Minister Ravneet Bittu Faces Casteist Remark Row; Punjab SC Commission Seeks Sangrur SSP Report

    The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes today took a strong stand against Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu. The Commission has taken suo-moto cognizance of the alleged use of casteist slurs during the Dhuri visit. A report has been sought from the Senior Superintendent of Police of Sangrur, and an inquiry has been ordered.

    Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi has confirmed this. He said the matter came to his notice through social media. Viral videos and reports on social media have claimed that Ravneet Singh Bittu had used casteist words.

    There was a heated argument with the police.

    The controversy pertains to Ravneet Singh Bittu’s visit to Dhuri. In the atmosphere of the municipal elections, Bittu had a heated argument with the officers and employees of the Punjab Police posted on duty there. It is alleged that in the midst of this commotion, he used indecent and casteist words against the policemen and others present there. The Commission immediately took cognizance of the matter after it came to light on social media.

    Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said that in view of the seriousness of the matter, the legal process has been initiated. The Commission has sent links of viral videos and news on social media to the police administration. Also, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Sangrur has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

    The report will have to be submitted by June 1.

    The Punjab SC Commission has given time till June 1, 2026, 9 am to submit the investigation report. The Commission has directed that the complete report be submitted through SP Headquarters, Sangrur. On the basis of this report, further legal action will be decided.
