Punjab Flood Crisis: 1312 Villages Affected, Red Alert in 8 Districts, Relief Efforts Ongoing

Jalandhar, Aug 31: 9 districts of Punjab have been hit by floods. These include Fazilka, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Gurdaspur and Barnala. According to government data, a total of 1312 villages have been affected by the floods so far. Apart from Punjab, a red alert has been issued for rain in Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana today.

If there is a calamity in the mountains today, then after Ravi, Beas and Sutlej can also cause damage in the state. So far, the government, 11 teams of NDRF and the army are engaged in relief and rescue operations in four districts, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar.

The team of NDRF Battalion 7 saved a young man from drowning in flood waters in Amritsar. In another district, an elderly woman was rescued from the flood and given medical aid.

Punjab singer and actress Sunanda Sharma reached Ajnala in Amritsar. She herself reached Nanakpura village of Ajnala sitting on a tractor and distributed ration to the people. She also brought fodder for animals with her. Along with this, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt also expressed concern over the situation in Punjab.

After the breaking of the Dhussi dam in Ghonewala, Amritsar, the surrounding 15 km area is in the grip of flood. After the water reached Ajnala town, the administration is also on alert. The distance of Ajnala town from Amritsar airport is just 10 km.

Storm warning in 8 districts of Punjab

A red alert has been issued for rain in 8 districts of Punjab bordering Himachal Pradesh namely Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar and Fatehgarh Sahib. Strong winds with speeds of up to 40 kmph can blow here along with rain.

At the same time, orange alert has been issued in 7 districts Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Moga, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Patiala and Mohali. While yellow alert is issued in all other districts. The situation does not seem to be normal even on Tuesday. On this day, orange alert has been issued in some districts of the state and yellow alert in some.

Sunanda herself reached with ration, Sanjay Dutt assured help

Punjabi singer Sunanda Sharma reached Ajnala in Amritsar amidst the situation in Punjab. During this time, Sunanda appealed to everyone to help Punjab at their own level. She had brought ration with her. She said that she is from Fatehgarh Churian and Ajnala is her neighboring district. So she has brought ration with her.

During this time, Sanjay Dutt posted on his social media and expressed concern over the situation in Punjab. He wrote – “The devastation caused by the floods in Punjab is really heartbreaking. I am sending strength and prayers to all those affected. I will help in every possible way. May Babaji bless everyone and protect Punjab.”
