IMD Issues First Red Fog Alert of Winter for Haryana; Near-Zero Visibility in 3 Districts

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Meteorological Department of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red fog alert for Haryana for the first time this winter season. The department has predicted very dense fog in three districts on Saturday (December 3). These include Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Karnal.

Minimum Temperature Likely to Fall by 2–4°C

The Meteorological Department has predicted very dense fog in many areas of these districts, with visibility being near zero. Additionally, the state’s minimum temperature could drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

Orange Alert in Over 20 Districts

Dense fog is also likely in some areas of Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Kaithal, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Mewat, Palwal, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri. An orange alert is in effect for these districts.

Cold Wave Warning for Southern and Western Haryana

Meanwhile, a cold wave warning has been issued today for various parts of Mahendragarh, Rewari, Mewat, Palwal, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri, bordering Rajasthan. The department has issued an alert for fog and cold wave conditions in many parts of the state until January 5th.

Fog will reduce from January 4

According to the Meteorological Department, from January 4 the winds will change to north-westerly. Due to this there will be relief from fog but due to cold winds the night temperature will fall especially. At the same time, a slight increase in day temperature can be seen. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of rain at present. The department has predicted dry weather in the entire state till January 6.

Mahendragarh was the coldest, minimum temperature recorded at 4°C

The average minimum temperature of the state on Saturday recorded a drop of 1.3°C compared to yesterday. However, it still remained 2.5°C above normal. Mahendragarh was the coldest in the entire state, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.0°C. There was a huge drop of 6.1°C in the temperature here compared to yesterday.

Hisar recorded a temperature of 8.1°C, a drop of 4.3°C. Meanwhile, Narnaul recorded 5.0°C, Bhiwani 5.8°C, and Ambala 11.2°C, all 4.8°C above normal. No rain was recorded in any part of the state in the last 24 hours.

IMD Advisory for Farmers Issued

Farmers have been advised to take precautions against frost, protect vegetable crops, irrigate lightly, and ensure livestock are kept warm.

Caution Advised Due to Low Visibility

The IMD warned farmers and commuters to exercise caution while operating machinery or travelling during early morning and late evening hours due to dense fog.
