Relief from scorching heat: Rain Alert for Punjab and Chandigarh; Winds to blow at speeds of 50 km/h

The people of Punjab and Chandigarh have experienced some relief from the scorching heat over the past three days. Today (June 2), the skies are expected to remain partially cloudy across most parts of Punjab and in Chandigarh. There will also be a respite from heatwave conditions. During this period, some locations in Chandigarh may witness rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Winds are likely to blow at speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility of rain in nine districts of Punjab. Compared to the previous day, the maximum temperature has risen by 2.9 degrees; however, it remains 4.2 degrees below normal. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature, registering 40.2 degrees.

Possibility of Rain in 9 Districts

According to the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, the nine districts where rain is likely today include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, Rupnagar, and Mohali. Temperatures in most districts are currently hovering between 32.5 and 40 degrees Celsius. Consequently, relief from heatwave conditions persists. SBS Nagar recorded a temperature of 32.4 degrees.

New Western Disturbance from June 3

The monsoon is advancing. Over the next 2–3 days, it is expected to reach more regions across South India. Weather patterns in North India are likely to change starting June 3. This shift will be triggered by the activation of a new Western Disturbance. There is a possibility of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

Temperatures to Rise Over Three Days

According to Surender Pal, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, light to moderate rain is expected at a few locations in the state on June 2, and across several areas on June 3 and 4. Subsequently, some places may also experience rain on June 5 and 7. Over the next three days, the maximum temperature is expected to rise by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius, followed by a likely decline of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Until June 5, some parts of the state may experience thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, on June 3 and 4, wind speeds in certain areas could reach up to 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.
